Doktorandkommitté - SFS PhD student committee
SFS organizes national research education monitoring and focuses on issues concerning PhD students. Primarily, this work is done through the SFS PhD student committee (SFS DK), which is SFS’s section for planning and handling questions related to doctoral studends and postgraduate education.

SFS’s focus includes for example the requirement of employment for all PhD students. Learn more about the issues that SFS and SFS DK are working on here.

You can contact us by writing an email to doktorand@sfs.se if you have any questions. Remember that no question is too small or weird to share with us!

Join the Facebook group “Doktorander i Sverige” to participate in the discussion regarding the conditions  for PhD students.

Members of SFS DK are appointed by the SFS council. The term of office is one year (1st of July to 30th June). If you want to participate  in SFS DK then your nomination needs to be submitted by either one of the SFS member unions, SFS Board, SFS Nomination Committee, member of the SFS council, the SFS PhD student committee or at least ten members of the SFS member unions. Feel free to write us an email if you are interested in joining the committee.

Members of SFS DK 2015-2016:

Ulrica Lunström - Chairman of SFS DK

I’m a registered occupational therapist and my research is about participation in everyday life among persons aging with spinal cord injuries. I defended my thesis in June 2015 at Luleå University of Technology [LTU]. The quality of doctoral studies and issues regarding being a PhD student are something that I’m dedicated to work with and I’ve had the opportunity to do so since 2011 first on a local level; by being a chairman for the PhD Student section and also a PhD student representative in the steering group at the Health Science department, LTU. Since July 2015, I’m a part of SFS DK and I really enjoy working with PhD students related questions on a national level. In my spare time; I like running, biking, and reading/listening to books among many other things.

Maria Ekström - board member

I started working in SFS-DK this year because I want to strengthen relationships between PhD student unions and work together towards a better PhD student education.  This interest has been growing during the years I worked for the PhD student guild at my university, Chalmers University of Technology. In addition to the work I do in SFS-DK and as the Vice Chair in the PhD student guild, I am in my third year as a PhD student in nanotechnology. My PhD work focuses on experimentally studing the interaction between an artificial atom and acoustic waves on top of the surface of a microchip. These acoustic waves spread similarly to water waves, but are seven order of magnitude smaller allowing us to communicate with quantum mechanical components such as the artificial atom.

I am a member of SFS-DK since summer 2015. I am in the last year of my PhD-Studies at Linnaeus University in Växjö in the computer science department. I joined SFS-DK because I think it offers a nice opportunity to have some political influence about open issues regarding the situation for doctoral students in Sweden. I also hope that I will be able to help with any issues or questions that one of you might have. Feel free to contact us at doktorand@sfs.se if you have any questions or problems that you think we might be able to take a closer look at! We are also always looking for motivated people who would like to join our committee. I was not a member of our student union here at Linnaeus University before I joined SFS-DK, nor did I have a lot of experience working in a board or another committee. So even if you have never done something like this before: If you are interested do not hesitate to contact us or your local student union for more details.
