The #4 networking event for education managers

Topic: Can the students pass the education?

: Monday 8 April 2024 at 15:15 – 17:00

Location: Digital via Zoom (sent out to member clubs via invitation)

It's time for the fourth meeting of the Network for Education Managers (NFUA)! At this meeting, we will focus on the theme Are the students able to pass the education?

In higher education, we often discuss the quality of education. In these discussions, we sometimes get into discussions about how the students are able to pass the education. This has implications for both the student and the institution. For the student, interrupted studies or difficulties in getting through their studies can mean stress and anxiety, while the student suffers an opportunity cost, i.e. would it have been better for the individual to study or do something else? For the higher education institution, this ultimately means further erosion of funding because it is based on student performance. The institutions' conditions for supporting the students and the education are therefore even worse. A concept that has also been established on this subject is broadened participation, which aims to meet a varied group of students in the teaching, both based on their individual conditions and prior knowledge and based on the admission requirements that we set.

We are visited by university lecturer Emma Laurin and PhD student Lisa Backman from Uppsala University, who are the authors of the report "The flow through is bad, but those who flow through are good" - Students' and education managers' experiences of the subject teacher training at Uppsala University which will tell about the report focusing on throughput.

At this meeting, we will discuss the conditions for completing higher education and what we students, student unions and universities can do to complete the education!

Contribute to SFS policy on higher education pedagogy!

The session will end with another theme, namely input to SFS's development of proposals on how higher education pedagogy can be improved, i.e. learning in higher education. Do you have an idea of what the teachers, the universities or the politicians can do for better higher education pedagogy! Good! We'd love to hear your ideas!

The network for education managers (NFUA) is a network within SFS. The purpose of the network is competence development, cooperation in quality issues and to form an arena for dialogue between education managers at different student unions.
